Široka Peč is one of the last 2000m peaks that was climbed in Slovenia. First ascent was done through the mountains imposing 700m tall North face in 1928 by the legendary Joža Čop, Pavla Jesih and Miha Potočnik.
Our route will take us on a more classic route following the ascent to ‘Amfiteater’, which is probably one of the most wild places in the world. A remote alpine cirque can host snow also in the later parts of the season. From here we will climb up to the exposed ridge. After gaining it we will follow it along at least 7 distinct towers on which at least one requires a rappel.
The limestone rock is something that the Julian Alps are famous for. And for those who do not know you must understand that limestone is quite crumbly and definitely needs some time to get used to climbing one. Not everything is good to grab and pull!
This tour is also very long and with the added exposure and challenging rock gives a sense of great satisfaction once completed. It can be compared to great routes of the Alps, like Matterhorn for example.
The journey begins with a hike from Gozd Martuljek, passing Bivak za Akom, which serves as a convenient rest point before tackling the climb. This approach typically takes around 3 hours.
From there, the real challenge begins: a 5-hour climb along the ridge, navigating exposed sections and the iconic “Seven Towers,” which demand steady focus and confident climbing. The route features sections requiring rappelling, adding to the technical complexity. After reaching the summit of Dovški Križ, the descent to the valley begins—a 3-hour journey that requires care and energy, as the terrain remains steep and demanding.
Like with all other tours the weather and conditions can be dangerous and do not allow us to finish the tour as planned. In this case Plan B will be proposed. If Plan B is not accepted by the client we take half of the booking fee.
