Don’t become a statistic — learn the skills that keep you and your partners alive in the avalanche terrain.
This one-day, hands-on Avalanche Awareness Course is designed for anyone who ventures into snowy, mountainous terrain — whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, climbing or hiking.
Spend the day in the field learning how to recognize avalanche hazards, understand snowpack conditions, and make smart decisions before and during your trip. Our certified intructors will guide you through:
Identifying different types of avalanches and their common triggers
Reading the terrain and snowpack to spot warning signs
Using essential safety equipment (beacon, probe, shovel) effectively
Practicing safe group travel techniques and communication
Knowing when to turn back — and why
You’ll come away with the knowledge to better interpret conditions, read the snow, and make confident, informed decisions in the backcountry.
Stay safe. Stay smart. Learn how to live to ride another day.
If you wish to have an advanced course we can deliver a 2 day tour with a lecture in the evening and another day practising out in the field.
Meet & Greet / Gear Check
Meet your guide and group at the designated trailhead or mountain hut. We’ll start with introductions, a quick overview of the day, and check everyone’s avalanche safety equipment (beacon, probe, shovel).
Avalanche Basics & Trip Planning
Short classroom-style session or outdoor briefing. Learn about avalanche types, causes, the human factor, and how to plan a safe day in the backcountry using forecasts and maps.
Field Session: Terrain Recognition
Head into the snow-covered terrain to identify avalanche-prone slopes, safe travel lines, and “terrain traps.” Practice observing the environment and discussing route choices.
Lunch Break
Enjoy a short break outdoors — a chance to rest, rehydrate, and review the morning’s lessons.
Snowpack & Stability Observations
Dig a snow pit and learn how to assess snow layers, weak points, and signs of instability. Discuss what this means for safe travel and decision-making.
Rescue Skills & Emergency Response
Hands-on practice with avalanche beacons, probes, and shoveling techniques. Run through realistic rescue scenarios as a team.
Debrief
Return to the meeting point for a group discussion. Review key lessons, decision-making strategies, and takeaways for safer backcountry travel.
End of Course
Course summary, feedback.
Like with all other tours the weather and conditions can be dangerous and do not allow us to finish the tour as planned. In this case Plan B will be proposed. If Plan B is not accepted by the client we take half of the booking fee.
