Everything you need to know

The Slovene Route is the most popular and “easiest” way up Triglav’s North Face. It offers a true alpine experience with varied terrain, including scrambling, traversing, and steeper climbing sections. While not highly technical, it still demands good fitness, basic climbing skills, and route-finding abilities.

itinerary

Day by Day

Approach (1 – 1.5h)

  • Start from Aljaž Lodge in Vrata Valley (1015 m).
  • Follow the Prag trail for about 1 – 1.5 hours.
  • Reach the base of the North Face and find the start of the Slovene Route.

 

Climbing (3 – 5h)

  • The first section ia a traverse that shows the character of the route – quality of the rock is better when it gets steeper. easy scrambling (II-III) over slabs and ledges.
  • The next part follows easy scrambling (II-III) and some harder sections over slabs and corners.
  • middle part follows a snow gully that is easier either at the start of the season or late when there is no more snow.
  • The upper section leads through iconic and exposed traverse that allows you to finish in a majestic style high above the valley floor. Views here are incredible.

 

Descent (2 – 3h)

  • Follow the marked trail towards Kredarica Hut (2515 m).
  • From Kredarica, descend via the Tominšek or Prag route back to Vrata Valley.
